Standard 7 - Micro-Political Leadership
Principals will build systems and relationships that utilize the staff’s diversity, encourage constructive ideological conflict in order to leverage staff expertise, power and influence in order to realize the school’s vision for success. The principal will also creatively employ an awareness of staff’s professional needs, issues, and interests to build cohesion and to facilitate distributed governance and shared decision-making.
School Executive Micro-political Leadership: The principal develops systems and relationships to leverage staff expertise and influence in order to influence the school’s identity, culture and performance.
As part of my Micro-Political growth, I worked to foster relationships with a variety of stakeholders both at the school and district level. I attended 1 Board of Education Meeting per month starting in January. It is important to be present at board meetings to gather information and to be a representative for my school. At the January meeting, I even had an opportunity to introduce myself as the new assistant principal at Bethesda! I also attended a Town Hall Meeting with Dr. Mubenga during his "Listening and Learning Tour". Additionally, during our monthly All Pro Dad's Breakfast at Bethesda, we invite families, students, and community members to come to our school in order to celebrate positive male role models in our children's lives and ultimately improve student achievement throughout their support. Our Superintendent, Dr. Pascal Mubenga even joined us in February as our guest speaker! Our students even had the opportunity to introduce him. This created a sense of pride and empowerment among our students and staff while showing off our great school. Additionally, for my Problem of Practice, I leveraged the organizational and leadership skills of two math teachers who I knew would implement the program with fidelity. As a result, these two math teachers will transform into Formative Loop Champions who will serve as the fluency coaches to mentor and lead peers to achieve the same high levels of success that they had.
